Basic knowledge of channel steel
Channel steel is a long strip of steel with a grooved cross-section, which belongs to carbon Structural Steel for construction and machinery.
1. Channel steel specifications and dimensions
The channel steel size is 5# channel steel, and the commonly used specifications are 50mm*50mm*3mm, 50mm*50*mm*5mm, 50mm*50mm*4mm, and 50mm*50mm*6mm. Among them, 50*50 is a right angle number, and the tail number is the thickness number. In terms of weight, the cross-sectional area is 6.93 cm, the theoretical weight is 5.44 kg/m, and the weight of No. 5 channel steel is 5.438 kg/m.
The national standard hot-rolled channel steel specification channel has an outer width of 160 mm and two heights: 63 mm and 65 mm, respectively. Note that the inner channel width is wide outside and narrow inside
2. Channel steel classification
1. Channel steel is divided into ordinary channel steel and light channel steel. The specifications of hot-rolled ordinary channel steel are 5-40#. The specifications of hot-rolled variable channel steel supplied by agreement between the supply and demand parties are 6.5-30#. Channel steel is mainly used in vehicle manufacturing, building structures, other industrial structures and fixed cabinets, etc. Channel steel is also often used with I-Beams.
2. Channel steel can be divided into 4 types according to its shape: cold-bent equilateral channel steel, cold-bent inner-curled channel steel, cold-bent unequal-sided channel steel, and cold-bent outer-curled channel steel.
Channel steel numbering
① Use international chemical element symbols and national symbols to indicate chemical composition, and use Arabic letters to indicate component content:
For example: China, Russia 12CrNi3A
② Use fixed-digit numbers to indicate steel series or numbers; such as: Japan, the United States, 300 series, 400 series, 200 series;
③ Use Latin letters and sequence to form a serial number, which only indicates the purpose.
3. Channel steel theoretical weight calculation formula
The theoretical measurement unit of channel steel is kilogram (kg).
Theoretical weight calculation formula of channel steel: W (weight, kg) = F (cross-sectional area mm2) × L (length, m) × ρ (density, g/cm3) × 1/1000 The density of steel is: 7.85g/cm3
Theoretical weight calculation formula of steel: Name (unit) Calculation formula Symbol meaning.

In fact, its size can be customized, that is, you can find a manufacturer to customize any size of channel steel you need.
Classification by production method:
Ordinary channel steel: specifications range from No. 5 to No. 40, with relatively thick waist and leg thickness, used to bear larger loads.
Light channel steel: Compared with ordinary channel steel, it has narrow legs, thin waist, and light weight, and is used to bear smaller loads.
Classification by shape:
Cold-bent equilateral channel steel: the two wing plates are of equal length and the shape is equilateral.
Cold-bent unequal-sided channel steel: the two wing plates are of unequal length and the shape is unequal.
Cold-bent inner curling channel steel: the inner edge of the wing plate has a curling edge.
Cold-bent external hem channel steel: the outer edge of the flange has a hem.
Classification by specification:
Large channel steel: No. 18 to No. 40.
Medium channel steel: No. 5 to No. 16.
