China's crude steel output fell 1.7% year-on-year in January-May 2025

In May 2025, China's crude steel output was 86.55 million tons, down 6.9% year-on-year;

pig iron output was 74.11 million tons, down 3.3% year-on-year; steel output was 127.43 million tons, up 3.4% year-on-year.

From January to May, China's crude steel output was 431.63 million tons, down 1.7% year-on-year; pig iron output was 362.74 million tons, down 0.1% year-on-year; steel output was 605.82 million tons, up 5.2% year-on-year.

By the three major categories, in May, the added value of the mining industry increased by 5.7% year-on-year, the manufacturing industry increased by 6.2%, and the electricity, heat, gas and water production and supply industry increased by 2.2%.

By industry, in May, the added value of 35 of the 41 major industries maintained year-on-year growth. Among them, coal mining and washing industry grew by 5.5%, oil and natural gas extraction industry grew by 5.3%, agricultural and sideline food processing industry grew by 7.6%, wine, beverage and refined tea manufacturing industry grew by 4.1%, textile industry grew by 0.6%, chemical raw materials and chemical products manufacturing industry grew by 5.9%, non-metallic mineral products industry decreased by 0.6%, ferrous metal smelting and rolling processing industry grew by 4.8%, non-ferrous metal smelting and rolling processing industry grew by 8.1%, general equipment manufacturing industry grew by 6.3%, special equipment manufacturing industry grew by 2.3%, automobile manufacturing industry grew by 11.6%, railway, ship, aerospace and other transportation equipment manufacturing industry grew by 14.6%, electrical machinery and equipment manufacturing industry grew by 11.0%, computer, communications and other electronic equipment manufacturing industry grew by 10.2%, electricity, heat production and supply industry grew by 2.0%.
